Mary Sette
Mary Sette is a writer, director, illustrator, and graphic designer working in Los Angeles. Her work has been described as "wonderfully demented," noted for its unique blend of dark comedy, surrealist horror, and evocative imagery.
Currently, Mary is working on her first graphic novel, HORRIBLE CORPSES, an absurdist murder mystery set in the afterlife, which will be showcased at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival and the LA Zine Festival.
Her animated short film, HOT TODDY, a teeny-bopper murder mystery starring Anna Seregina, Atsuko Okatsuka, and Katrina Davis, was named Programmer’s Pick at SeriesFest and played at festivals like Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival, Outfest LA LGBTQ Film Festival, Middlebury New Filmmakers Film Festival, and many more.
Mary has attended Emily Flake’s St. Nell's Humor Residency, CalArts Animation Residency, and SAW’s Graphic Novel Intensive. She has been a mentee in both Women in Animation for adult animation and Women in Film for writing and directing. Her cartoons and illustrations have been featured in SlackJaw, CanvasRebel Magazine, Silent Auctions Magazine, Malt Adult, and Whohaha. Her scripts have been short-listed by Warner Bros. Television Writers' Workshop, Sundance Institute, Hedgebrook Screenwriting Lab, and Austin Film Festival.
Mary received her MFA from USC's John Wells Division of Writing for Screen and Television and her BA from George Washington University, where she double-majored in English and Creative Writing.
She is originally from a small farm town in New Jersey known for its meatballs and regret.
